Commonwealth 2006 50 M pistol bronze medalist Defence Force Lance Corporal Roger Daniel will carry the T&T flag at the closing ceremony of the 18Th Commonwealth Games.
The Thirty-six year old soldier said it is an honour to be selected to carry your country's flag at a major international games.
According to Mushtaque Mohammed Chef DE mission of the Bhp Billition sponsored Trinidad and Tobago Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games team.The three athletes in consideration would have been Daniel ,Marc Burns and Cleopatra Borel- Brown all three won bronze medals at the Games.
The process was simplified with Burns and Borel -Brown having to depart Melbourne before the closing ceremony.
"I am fortunate in not having to make a difficult decision.Burns having carried the flag at the opening ceremony may not have factored it would have been down to Cleo or Roger"said Mohammed.
Mohammed reflecting on his first Chef DE Mission duties at a Games under the auspices of the TTOC said it has been a tremendous learning experience.
"To be honest it has been a reality check.The role of Chef DE mission is an onerous one under the TTOC dispensation since 1997.I have not had a moments rest here in Melbourne but I have had great support from Annette Knott ,General Team manager".
I thank the President Larry Romany and the executive committee for affording me the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
The locally based members of the team including Roger Daniel will depart Melbourne on Monday 27Th their arrival in Trinidad is scheduled for Tuesday 28Th March.
