Alescon Comets have recently captured attention based on their rise on the domestic cricket scene and for this president of the club Dinanath Ramnarine is giving credit to the club’s ‘player focus’ approach.

As a cricket fan whose love of the game was nurtured in the 1970s and 1980s, I know a thing or two about Caribbean sporting dominance.

The time has come to cultivate beach cricket and the eventual marketing of this version of the sport, in an effort to boost this country’s sport tourism efforts says Baldath Mahabir executive member of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB).

The West Indies cricket team, with all their bling and bravado, are the very incarnation of the modern game. Stick them in whites, send them out to face a bunch of gimlet-eyed Aussies, and they will be lucky to extend a Test match to a third day. But give them maroon pyjamas, a white ball and a pumping soundtrack, and they will smack you into next week.

West Indies players have benefitted from the big business which is the Indian Premier League (IPL).

A few weeks ago the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee ( TTOC ) pulled together some of the country’s brightest entrepreneurial, business and public sector minds. The hugely positive discussions focused on the big dream of building a huge and sustainable sport industry.

ST JOHN’S—Sir Viv Richards, one of cricket’s finest ever captains, has thrown his support behind Twenty20 skipper Darren Sammy in his decision to slam the West Indies Cricket Board for their lack of support for the squad during the recent Twenty20 World Cup in India.

West Indies legend Michael Holding is displeased by comments made by former Australian fast bowler Geoff Lawson who went beyond the boundary in describing Marlon Samuels as being someone affiliated with gangsters and not to be taking lightly.

Trinidad and Tobago cricketer/entertainer Dwayne Bravo’s music video hit “Champion” has been steadily rising in popularity since the West Indies’ triumph in the ICC World Twenty20 final on Sunday and as of yesterday, had attracted almost twice as many YouTube views as T&T’s top soca artiste Machel Montano’s “Like Ah Boss” video of 2015.

If you think Ben Stokes’s bowling was to blame, try hitting four consecutive sixes in front of a global television audience, in the final over, to win a world title when all seems lost. Try it with full tosses, or even with tennis balls. The truth is that what Carlos Brathwaite did at the end of the World Twenty20 final was astounding and inspired.
