This course was designed by the TTOC Safe Sport Commission and is intended to introduce participants to key concepts, principles and practices of safeguarding in sport to support their roles and responsibilities in facilitating a safe and positive sport environment for children and adults at risk.

The course focuses on providing guidelines for persons who interact directly with children and adults at risk in sport, physical education and physical activity settings with an emphasis on actions to prevent harm and abuse. Participants will also engage in case studies and scenarios to prepare them to recognize and respond to poor practice, non-accidental harm and various forms of abuse in the sport sector.

By the end of this course, participants would be expected to:

1. Acknowledge the importance of safeguarding children and adults at risk in sport.
   
2. Recognize the types and indicators of abuse in sport.
   
3. Clarify the roles and responsibilities of coaches and other key personnel in safeguarding children and adults at risk in sport.
   
4. Outline the guidelines and procedures for reporting and responding to poor practice and abuse.
   
5. Assess various scenarios to determine suitable responses to safeguarding issues.
   
6. Appreciate the value of adopting a trauma-informed and athlete-centered approach to safeguarding.
